Upon arrival we meet you at Tangier airport, welcome you, and drive through the Rif Mountains and the city of Tetouan to enjoy views of the beautiful mountains and the Mediterranean coast of northern Morocco until we reach Chefchaouen, one of the stunning towns at the foot of the Rif Mountains. Chefchaouen’s medina (old part of the city), with its blue colour, becomes one of the best cities to visit in Morocco, surrounded by much art, craft shops, restaurants on the square, and cafés. Accommodation: hotel/riad – dinner and breakfast.
After breakfast in the riad, our journey begins toward Volubilis, crossing the Rif Mountains and a beautiful oak forest. We will stop in Volubilis to discover the Roman ruins and learn about Moroccan pre-Christian history, then drive to the city of Meknes, founded in the seventeenth century, where we stop for lunch. In the afternoon we will visit the historic sites of the medina, such as Bab el-Mansour and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. Later we head to the city of Fez, where we spend the night. Accommodation: hotel/riad – breakfast.
At 9:00 a.m., after breakfast, we begin our guided visit to the medina. The Fez medina, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981, is one of the largest walled cities in the world. It was founded in the year 790 A.D. We will discover and walk through its narrow streets full of shops with fresh fruit, a great variety of spices, Berber carpets, and many other Moroccan handicrafts. We will visit the Royal Palace, the tanneries, the potters, and also the oldest university in the world, created before Oxford and the Sorbonne. We will have lunch in the centre of the medina in a typical restaurant. After lunch we complete the visit and return to your hotel around 4:00 p.m. Accommodation tonight in a luxury haima tent with dinner and breakfast.
Morning departure after breakfast, we start the day toward the Sahara from the riad, passing near Ifrane National Park. We stop in Ifrane to enjoy its beauty and take memorable photos, then head to Azrou to see the Barbary monkeys in the cedar forest and continue to Midelt for lunch in a restaurant. In the afternoon we cross the Tizi n-Telghomt pass (1,907 m) to reach Errachidia while admiring the views of the Ziz Gorges, which offer incredible photo opportunities. Later we stop at a panoramic viewpoint over the Ziz Valley. The trip continues to Merzouga via Aoufous and Erfoud; as soon as we reach the Erg Chebbi dunes, we prepare for the experience of riding camels on the dunes for one hour to enjoy the sunset. Accommodation: tents – dinner and breakfast.
Today will be a full desert day. We get up before dawn to enjoy an unforgettable sunrise in the dunes. After a hearty breakfast, we circle Erg Chebbi, a stretch of sand desert where Morocco’s Grand Dune stands more than 250 m high, and take tracks followed by the former Paris-Dakar rally, with the mountains bordering Algeria in the background. We stop at the Tissardmine oasis, where fossil quarries are still found, and continue to a nomad settlement to learn some of the secrets of their life and customs. Then we stop at a panoramic point to view the whole Erg Chebbi. We arrive at the village of Khamlia, of Malian origin, where we relax with tea while enjoying a short spiritual Gnawa music concert. Afterwards we return to the hotel to enjoy a relaxing afternoon by the pool. Accommodation: hotel – dinner and breakfast.
If you get up early, the Sahara Desert offers an amazing sunrise. After breakfast you can return calmly by camel to your hotel at the edge of the dunes and appreciate the unique beauty of the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes with the first light. After breakfast and a shower, we leave for the Todra Gorges, known as an important destination for climbers. These are the highest and narrowest gorges in western Morocco, where we can walk a little before heading to the Dades Valley. Accommodation – dinner and breakfast.
After breakfast, we start the trip toward the Valley of the Roses, which blooms in April, and move to the palm groves of Skoura, where kasbah architecture stretches beneath the palms. We stop in Ouarzazate to take a photo of Taourirt Kasbah as well as the film studios, then drive to Ksar Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most visited sight in the south. After the walking visit and lunch, we take the road again, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi N’Tichka pass (2,260 m). Arriving in Marrakech in the afternoon at 6:00 p.m., accommodation with breakfast.
Breakfast. Today we dedicate to visiting Marrakech (official local guide), the second-oldest city in Morocco, founded in 1062, once capital of the Islamic world. Must-see sights: Jemaa el Fnaa Square, Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs, and entering the medina to stroll through the labyrinth of alleyways forming Marrakech’s famous souk. Free afternoon. Optional dinner at the famous restaurant “Chez Ali” with folk shows and an Arab horse fantasia.
Essaouira, the pearl of the Atlantic, a World Heritage city, retains the charm and authenticity of a land lost in time. Our excursion to Essaouira includes a stop at a women’s cooperative to see a demonstration of argan-oil production. On arrival you can stroll freely in the medina, visit the port, and then enjoy a grilled fresh-fish lunch. (Important places to see listed above in the original text.) Accommodation: hotel/riad – breakfast.
After breakfast in Essaouira we follow the Atlantic coast with its marine scenery and traditional fishing villages. Arrive in Casablanca to visit the spectacular Hassan II Mosque, built partly over the ocean. After this visit, continue to Rabat, Morocco’s administrative capital, to discover the Méchouar, walls and gardens of the Royal Palace, stroll the Kasbah of the Oudayas, and end at the Mausoleum of Mohammed V and Hassan II. Accommodation in Rabat – breakfast.
Breakfast, then depart for Asilah, a peaceful coastal city in northern Morocco. Enclosed by well-preserved Portuguese walls from the fifteenth century, Asilah offers deserted beaches and a relaxed atmosphere. Its medina is an artistic centre known for murals and the annual Moussem Culturel International d’Asilah. Accommodation: hotel/riad – breakfast.
After breakfast, drive to Tangier with a first stop at the Hercules Cave (visit ~1 h). Continue to Tangier (optional lunch). Free time until transfer to the airport—two hours before flight time. End of our service.
