Pickup in Fez at the hotel or riad, airport, or any location you choose, at 8 a.m. We head south, crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains until reaching Ifrane, known as “the little Moroccan Switzerland” due to its resemblance to that country. One of the animals that once lived here was the Atlas lion, now the city’s symbol and commemorated with a stone statue in the center. We will stop to take some photos. We continue through the famous cedar forests, see the region’s largest thousand-year-old cedar, and feed the hundreds of Barbary monkeys that inhabit the area. Lunch in Midelt, then in the afternoon we pass through the Ziz Valley—more than 20 km of palm groves, making it one of the largest in the world. Arrival in Merzouga, welcome tea at our hotel, and our first contact with the desert: climbing the nearby dunes to relax and watch a spectacular sunset, then returning to the hotel near the Erg Chebbi dunes. Today will be a full desert day. After a hearty breakfast, we will drive around Erg Chebbi, a sand desert area that contains Morocco’s highest dune (over 250 meters). We will take the track used by part of the old Paris-Dakar rally, with the mountains marking the border with Algeria in the background. We will stop at the Tissardmin oasis, where fossil deposits can still be found, and continue to a nomad settlement to learn some of their customs and way of life. Then we stop at a panoramic viewpoint to admire the full extent of Erg Chebbi. We continue to Khamlia, a village of Malian origin, where we will relax with tea while enjoying a short performance of traditional Gnawa spiritual music. Afterwards, we return to the hotel to depart on a camel caravan into the heart of the dunes and watch an unforgettable sunset. We reach the camp located in a wild oasis, staying in haimas (tents made from camel hair), like those used by desert nomads. Dinner and overnight in haimas in the heart of the desert under a spectacular starry sky.
“Meeting with the Sunrise.” Being in the desert, it is recommended to wake up early and walk to the highest dune near the camp to enjoy the sunrise and the relaxing natural scenery. We then return by camel to the hotel for breakfast, showers, etc. Once ready, we head north through the Tafilalet Palm Grove, where over 20 km you will see countless palms, making it one of the largest palm groves in the world. Crossing it, we reach the Ziz Valley, named after the river flowing from the High Atlas that feeds the grove. We stop to admire the valley from above. A planned stop in Midelt, in the heart of the Atlas, will allow us to rest and have lunch. Later, we continue our journey, again passing through the Cedar Forest. Arrival in Fez around 18:00, transfer to your specified accommodation. End of our services.
