Itinerary

Day 1 - Fez – Ifrane – Middle Atlas – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert

Pickup in Fez at the hotel or riad, airport, or wherever you wish, at 8 a.m. We head south to cross the Middle Atlas Mountains until reaching Ifrane, known as “the little Moroccan Switzerland” because of its strong resemblance to that country. One of the animals that formerly lived here was the Atlas lion, which has become the city’s symbol and to which a stone statue has been dedicated in the center. We will stop to take some photos. We then cross the famous cedar forests, see the region’s largest thousand-year-old cedar, and feed the hundreds of Gibraltar monkeys that inhabit the area. Lunch in Midelt, and in the afternoon we pass through the Ziz Valley—more than 20 km of palm grove and 10 million palm trees, making it one of the largest in the world. Arrival in the Merzouga desert and welcome tea at our hotel, then our first contact with the desert: climbing the nearby dunes to relax and watch a spectacular sunset before returning to the hotel near the Erg Chebbi dunes. (Dinner and overnight at the hotel.)

Day 2 - 4×4 Tour – Erg Chebbi Dunes – Nomads – Khamlia Village

Today is a full desert day. After a hearty breakfast, we will drive around Erg Chebbi, the sand desert that contains Morocco’s Great Dune, more than 250 meters high, following tracks used by the former Paris-Dakar rally and with the mountains bordering Algeria in the background. Stop at the Tissardmine oasis, where fossil quarries can still be found, and continue to a nomad settlement to learn some secrets of their life and customs. Next, a panoramic stop to view Erg Chebbi as a whole. We arrive at Khamlia, a village of Malian origin, where we relax with tea while enjoying a short spiritual Gnawa music concert. Afterwards, return to the hotel to depart in a camel caravan into the heart of the dunes and watch an unforgettable sunset. We reach the camp located in a wild oasis, staying in haimas—tents made of camel hair—like those used by desert nomads. Dinner and overnight in haimas in the heart of the desert beneath a spectacular blanket of stars.

Day 3 - Merzouga – Rissani – Todra & Dades Gorges

Before sunrise, your camel guide will wake you to climb the dunes and see the sun emerge above the horizon. After riding camels back, we depart for Erfoud, famous for fossilized marble workshops, then continue to Touroug to reach the Todra Valley for lunch. Then on to the gorges: the Todra River has carved a gorge with huge vertical walls of great beauty; it is a paradise for climbers and a unique place. We take a half-hour walk to calmly view the gorges. In the afternoon we continue to the Dades Valley, passing Boumalne Dades. We arrive at the Dades Gorges with several stops for photos. Dinner and overnight in the guesthouse.

Day 4 - Dades – Valley of the Roses – Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah – Marrakech

After breakfast, take a short walk in the Dades Gorges before leaving for Marrakech. We follow the Dades Valley through El Kelaa M’Gouna, the Valley of the Roses, and the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs until we reach Ouarzazate, where we see the Kasbah of Taourirt. Then we continue to the village of Ait Ben Haddou. You will have time to explore this famous UNESCO-protected site, which appears in many films such as Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and many more. We then cross the impressive High Atlas landscapes and arrive in Marrakech around 7 p.m., ending our service.
