We begin our journey from Marrakech toward Ouarzazate, crossing the High Atlas via the stunning Tizi N’Tichka Pass (2,260 meters altitude). Along the way, we reach the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village featured in films such as Gladiator, The Mummy, Lawrence of Arabia, Game of Thrones, and Alexander the Great.
Next, we visit the Taourirt Kasbah in Ouarzazate, the former residence of one of the region’s most powerful governors. We continue along the Road of the Thousand Kasbahs through the Valley of Roses, eventually arriving in the Dades Valley for overnight accommodation.
After breakfast, we drive through the beautiful Dades Valley and the dramatic Todra Gorges, where you can explore and admire the canyon. We then head toward Merzouga, passing through the Jorf Palm Grove—famous for producing the best dates—and stopping in Erfoud, a town known for fossil artifacts.
In the afternoon, we reach Merzouga, where we’ll swap vehicles for camels and embark on a 1-hour ride into the desert. We arrive at our luxury desert camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes for dinner, Berber music, and stargazing.
We’ll wake early to catch the sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast and a camel ride back to the village, we take a different route back to Marrakech. We pass through Tafilalet’s palm groves and the town of Rissani (birthplace of Morocco’s Alaouite dynasty), cross the Anti-Atlas Mountains, and visit Tazarine, N’kob, and the lush Draa Valley.
We stop for lunch in Ouarzazate before returning to Marrakech, arriving around 6:00 PM.
